5 COMMON BOILER PROBLEMS

A boiler that is running perfectly is a boiler that you do not need to think about. It goes about it is job heating your commercial structure and water without you needing to lift a finger. Unfortunately, when a boiler malfunctions it can lead to a lot of stress and a lot of headaches. Most malfunctions happen during the winter as well, when you most need it. Here are some common problems that you should look out for.

Lack of Heat

If you do not have heat or hot water, then there are several things that might be causing it. There could be a faulty signal going to the thermostat, or broken diaphragms or airlocks, valves that fail, or even low water levels.

Leaks and Drips

Seeing water leaking out of your boiler can be a frightful sight. Any number of causes could be the culprit for leaking, and diagnosing them depends on where the leak is originating. Usually it is a broken pump seal or pressure valve. Never try to repair a gas boiler that is leaking by yourself. It is definitely a job for a trained professional.

Noises

Sometimes boilers make weird noises, like gurgling or banging. Oftentimes it is because air has gotten into the system, but it could be something else. It could be that the water pressure has dropped too low, or that the pump is on the verge of failing.

No Pilot Light

If the pilot light goes out, then you will not have any heat. You might have a broken thermocouple that is preventing the gas from coming through, or it might have been a simple draught that is blown the light out. Always check the gas before reigniting the pilot light. If there is no gas coming through, then you certainly will not be successful.

Thermostat Problems

You may notice that the thermostat does not seem to be accurate. First check if it is turned on, and if it is, then the settings may have been changed by accident, or someone else changed them without telling you. If none of those things are causing the problem, then it might be time to get a new one.
